Hilton vs. Hyatt: Which Hotel is Worth Choosing?

As a travel enthusiast, choosing the right hotel brand is key to enhancing your lodging experience. There are so many branded hotels out there that trying each one individually can be overwhelming. Here, I recommend two world-leading hotel groups: Hyatt and Hilton. Each brand has its unique advantages and loyalty programs. So, which hotel is better? Let’s take a look.

In terms of the number of hotels, Hilton boasts over 7,500 properties spread across 22 brands in 119 countries and regions. If you love traveling the world, Hilton might be more suitable for you. Hyatt, on the other hand, has over 1,000 hotels in 68 countries and regions. While it has fewer locations than Hilton, it is renowned for its high-end services.

When it comes to loyalty programs, both brands offer a wealth of member benefits. Hyatt’s membership levels include Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist, each offering different points earning rates and benefits such as free breakfast, room upgrades, and late check-out. Hilton’s membership levels range from Silver to Diamond, with the top-tier Diamond members enjoying benefits like lounge access, room upgrades, and free breakfast. Notably, through the American Express Aspire card, achieving Hilton Diamond status is relatively easy, making it particularly attractive.

Regarding points earning and redemption, Hilton points accumulate faster, almost three times quicker than Hyatt’s, and offer more redemption options, such as Lyft rides and Amazon shopping. However, Hyatt points typically hold higher value, especially in high-end accommodations and airline partnerships, where Hyatt shines with unique advantages.

In terms of credit cards, Hilton has partnered with American Express to offer several co-branded credit cards with varying annual fees and benefits, catering to different spending levels and travel needs. While Hyatt’s credit card options are fewer, their lower annual fees make them suitable for moderate travelers.

Overall, if you prefer having more choices globally, Hilton might be the better fit for you. If you value high-end experiences and point value more, Hyatt would be a better choice.
